Why You Should Visit The Wonderful Port Stephens

Port Stephens in New South Wales is among Australia’s most scenic travel destinations, boasting an impressive 26 pristine beaches, marvellous marine life, fabulous dining and an array of natural, scenic in-land attractions. Whether you are simply wanting to relax, are planning a romantic weekend getaway or want to create unforgettable life-long memories with family friends, Port Stephens truly has something for everyone.

Port Stephens is one of the most popular coastal regions in New South Wales with a fantastic selection of beaches ready for you to explore. Among the most popular are my favourite, picture-perfect Fingal Bay and Birubi Beaches with their calm waters and serene atmosphere. Surfers, as well as those who love something a little wilder and wavier, adore Zenith Beach as well as Wreck, Samurai and Box beaches. Each is entirely different, unique and perfect for exploration alone or with friends and family.  You may even be lucky enough to catch a swimming session with one of the local 140 dolphins living in the area!

If you want to stay close to the sea yet out of the water, why not try a sunset camel or horse ride in Anna Bay? And there’s also sandboarding down Stockton Blight sand dunes or swimming with the grey nurse shark colony off Broughton Island for the more adrenaline-seeking adventurers. For relaxing and stress-free unwind-time, you can do a dolphin or whale watching cruise or some snorkelling or scuba diving that will beautifully showcase the marvellous marine life on offer.

Take a hike in Tomaree National Park for spectacular views of the entire Port Stephens area. Keen hikers can choose trails of approximately 2 hours return, while the cruiser visitors can take the shorter ( approximately one-kilometre return) Tomaree Head Summit Walk. Don’t forget your camera as the views are absolutely specular- especially at sunset or sunrise where you will see the sky light up in a rainbow of perfect pastels, just for you.

For some fine dining try Little Beach Boathouse overlooking Little Beach in Nelsons Bay, Sandpiper’s Restaurant in town or The Point Restaurant in Soldiers Point for some seafood-y, meat or vegetable wonders guaranteed to please even the very pickiest of diners. Or for the best pub meal in town head straight to Mavericks on the Bay.

Port Stephens is an all-around wonderful holiday destination that you will be delighted with, so definitely add it to your bucket list for the warmer months.
